Guelph United signs 4 more players to finalize opening day roster

One day before the start of a new season, Guelph United is happy to announce the signing of 4 more players, to complete the opening day roster for our men’s team.

We have re-signed midfielder Keani Fairbanks, and signed defenders A.J. Sabatin, Ivan Altamirano, and midfielder Gamtessa Berehe.

Fairbanks, 29, is a central midfielder from Kitchener, ON, who signed with Guelph United during the 2025 season. He ended up appearing in 6 matches for our team. Before GUFC, Keani had an eventful career which saw him play in various leagues around Europe, for Algarve in Portugal, PAS Korinthos in Greece, Achilles ‘29 in Netherlands, and DFK Dainava in Lithuania. In the former League1 Ontario, Keani also spent time with Scrosoppi FC, Burlington SC and The Borough FC.

A.J. Sabatin, 20, is a left-back from Toronto, ON, who will be making his senior club debut with Guelph United. In the last 2 seasons, he played for Sigma FC’s U20 and reserve teams. He is also a freshman at the University of Guelph, appearing in 9 matches for the Gryphons in his first U Sports season. A.J. is of Filipino descent, and has appeared for the Philippines national teams at the youth levels, including for the U20 team in the U20 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Gamtessa Berehe is a midfielder with 2 seasons of League1 experience, playing in 2024 for BVB IA Waterloo, and in 2025 for Cambridge United. He is enrolled at Conestoga College, and has become a central piece of the Condors in the last 3 OCAA seasons, appearing in 29 games, scoring 4 goals and providing 7 assists, and earning OCAA Men’s Soccer West Division All-Star honors in both 2023 and 2024.

Ivan Altamirano is a defender who has spent the last couple of seasons with Hamilton United. In 2025, he appeared in 14 games for Hamilton’s League1 Championship squad.

These last 4 additions wrap up the preseason signings for Guelph United’s men’s team. For the full roster, and details about all players, please check out our roster page.
