GUFC Women defeats OPL1 leaders NDC Ontario
After an incredible performance, Guelph United’s women’s team obtained one of the best wins of its history, on Sunday, in the first
match of an Ontario Premier League double-header at the Centennial Bowl.
Our opponent, NDC Ontario, has been the perennial favorite of the league in every single season, and started 2026 with 6 consecutive wins. That streak ended on Sunday at the Bowl, as Guelph United put on a fantastic display.
Violet Hipkin (left, photo by Amber Richmond Photography) opened the scoring, after which our MVP and leading goal-scorer Olivia Brown added two more, to give our team a 3-0 lead. An injury time goal by NDC spoiled Jo Mazier’s well-deserved clean sheet, but the three points come to Guelph.
The two teams meet again on Wednesday night, also at the Centennial Bowl, in the quarter-finals of the OPL Cup. Buy your tickets here!
In the second match of the double-header, our men’s team was unable to replicate the same performance, losing 0-3 to an aggressive Windsor City FC side in an OPL2 matchup. Next week, the men are playing in Whitby, before an OPL Cup quarter-final at the Centennial Bowl on Tuesday, June 2nd, against Scarborough’s Master’s FA.
