Guelph United signs Croatian defender Josip Stojanovic
Guelph United is adding another foreign player to its roster. We’re happy to reveal we signed Croatian defender Josip-Pavle Stojanovic for the 2026 season.
Josip, 28, was born in Vinkovci, Croatia, and primarily plays as a left-back. He spent the first few years of his career playing in his native country, for NK Bedem, HNK Cibalia, HNK Vukovar, NK Otok and Mladost Vođinci, some of which were professional clubs in the second-tier of Croatian football.
In 2022, Josip moved to Canada, and joined the Conestoga Condors, in the OCAA, for which he quickly became one of the best players in the squad.
He was awarded OCAA Rookie of the Year at the end of his first college season, and was selected twice as an OCAA Second Team All Star, among other accomplishments, being a central part of his team’s run towards winning the OCAA provincials and gaining a national silver medal.
In the college off-seasons, in 2023 and 2024, Josip played for BVB IA Waterloo in League1 Ontario, appearing in 21 games and scoring 4 goals. In the summer of 2025, he played for Oriental SC.
