GUFC signs midfielder Matthaus Garcia; finalizes roster for 2024 season

Guelph United is happy to reveal we have signed midfielder Matthaus Garcia for the 2024 season. Garcia becomes the 20th and final signing before the start of the men’s L1O Premier Division season this Saturday in Hamilton.

Born in Canada but also holding an El Salvador citizenship, Matthaus was part of the Toronto FC Academy, for which he played between 2021 and 2022. He then moved to Cambridge United, playing for their U21 team.

In January 2023, he signed a professional contract with El Salvador first division club A.D. Chalatenango. Matthaus appeared in 9 matches in the top flight in El Salvador, before returning to Canada and signing for BVB IA Waterloo in League1 Ontario last summer.

The Matthaus Garcia signing gets our Premier roster to a total of 20 - and this is how we will begin the season. Head coach Justin Springer confirmed in an interview last week that Guelph United will not sign more than 20 players, in order to give some opportunities to players from the Reserve squads throughout the year.

The rosters for our other teams are set as well for the start of the new season. You can check them out in detail below:

2024 Season Tickets can now be purchased from our shop. They include all 19 league home matches played at the Centennial Bowl, for both our men’s and women’s teams, as well as the home match in Cambridge (including free transportation), plus the 2 confirmed L1 Cup home games.

That’s a total of 22 matches, with prices starting at only $65, for adults, and $30, for kids and seniors. Get yours now!
